SugarCRM, Dotproject, or vtiger crm?

Hello!

I'm evaluating CRMs and am weighing the options of going with dotproject, Sugarcrm and vtiger crm.

I specifically like the customer portal and reporting features.

I think vtiger would be the CRM I want to use with the exception of the following:

1: I can't get the customer portal demo to let me log in. I followed all of the directions (create user with email address, check customer portal user, log in with email as user id and password..), still cannot log into the portal after creating a new user. I tried everything...for about an hour.

2: Installation instructions are more complex than either of the other two crm apps. I read something about "starting and stopping the vtiger server", or something like that...why not have a simple "installation by ftp to a shared server" download and instructions for same? I don't want to get all the way through uploading all of the files to find out that I won't be able to use vtiger.

3: It's not clear from the installation docs whether I can install vtiger crm to a NON-root folder. I already have other apps installed on my site, so I would need to put vtiger into it's own "vtigercrm" folder. Is this possible?

If anyone can clarify the above, I'd be happy to give vtiger crm a shot!

i'm uploading vtiger now to a non-root folder. i re-read the docs again, and it doesn't sound difficult...we'll see!
