I am struggling with the mail merge features of Vtiger, some details follow:
I cannot get the plugin for Office to connect to my server, which is on our Intranet. I've verified that the config.inc.php file is correct. There is no .htaccess file on the server to prevent the connection, yet the plugin offers the standard error with each attempt to connect. "vtiger CRM Word plug-in cannot connect to the server"
I've presently decided to give up on using the plug-in and am trying to edit the merge documents directly from Word. I started this by exporting a "Leads" file to csv format, converted it to a Word doc, and using it to create a new mail merge document. I inserted the merge fields into a form document and uploaded it to the server. I then used the ActiveX plugin with Internet Explorer to do the actual merge from the Leads module. When I did this, I found out that the merge fields from the csv-file-converted-to-Word actually didn't match the fields the database reported to the ActiveX control. Maddening. I noted the field names reported as available and re-edited the merge document and uploaded it again, only to find that editing the text directly in Word doesn't actually change the fields in the merge document. I am looking for suggestions here on getting the plug-in to work, or alternately, getting the merge document to actually match the fields offered by the ActiveX control.
In the long run, I would prefer an alternative to being locked into Word, i.e. the ability to use OpenOffice with new and improved merge feature. |
