Hi,
Studio Synthesis is pleased to release a small patch which adds to the current standard vtiger ftp backup feature the option to create a local copy of vtiger files and database.
I want to thank Tony Blair for pointing us on the right direction, and the Forum Users for showing how precious this small piece of code could be.

The patch is still in beta, so please download and test it, but make all necessary backups ;-) before applying. Being a beta, you should not use it in a production environment.
All credits for the code to Alexander Fortin.
The patch is primarly intended for those Vtiger users who have a personal / less more then personal installation on a shared server (or even on a local machine) and are looking for an easy way to make vtiger backups, without having to rely on any external tool.
The .zip packages (choose either the one with the files, which will overwrite your old ones, or the one with the patch, which is a cleaner method to work, but hey you'll have to apply the patch :-) come with a small readme.txt
You may find the patch applied and running here:

Your feedback is definitely welcome!

Hi,
Very nice and useful patch. Thanks.
I attach the Spanish translation in patch file for the Spanish community.
patch -p 0 < localbackup_es.diff
A couple of small notes:
- The correct spelling is vtigerCRM
- Eliminate the Italian file patch from the main patch and distribute it separately as it gives an error and stops on those installs that don't have the Italian files.
Keep me informed on changes in the language files and I will keep the Spanish version updated. Maybe the correct place for all this work is on the forge.
Regards, Joe

hi,
thanks for the notes, joe :-)
we'll open a project on the forge now, and make the package available there, with the translations as separeted files and everything
i just wanted to have some (positive :-) feeback here on the forum, before "investing" on the forge

hi spudR,
we're going to do some windows testing/debugging this week.
we've created a project on the forge:
http://forge.vtiger.com/projects/localbackup/
we'll upload the packages - a revised version, splitting the language files from the main patch - there
meanwhile, if you have a standard vtiger, you may use the .zip packages with the files - just make sure you set the path to your .zip executable properly
or ... wait a couple of days
