I have vTiger 5.04 LAMP, Outlook 2007 and the 5.04 Outlook plug-in. After lots of trouble (see other forum posts), I finally got the plug-in working. But as soon as I entered a few contacts in vTiger, the plug-in stopped working where contacts are concerned.

When I try to sync contacts, I get the error "Invalid return value from vTiger CRM." My problem is not related to a large number of contacts. I only have about 10 contacts in my vTiger system so far!

This is very frustrating. It took hours of troubleshooting to get the Outlook plug-in to work in the first place. And now it's broken again after I entered just a few contacts into my CRM system. Is this how frustrating it's always going to be? Even with a free product, there should be a reasonable assumption that it will work properly. So far the ratio of troubleshooting my vTiger system to actually using it is about 20-to-1.

How can I fix this and keep it fixed?

Followup: I found the problem by deleting contacts, re-entering them one-by-one and trying a sync with each contact (to try and find out whether a particular one was causing the problem).

The trouble turned out to be a contact who had an em dash (–) in his title.

Should that be a problem? I was surprised that a character like this would prevent a sync. Is this an issue related to my not using UTF8? I think it might be wise to go UTF8, but I'm not quite sure how...and with all the trouble I've had, I was afraid to try and learn.
