Hi there,
I just installed Thunderbird plugin, but I found that I cannot import contacts assigned to a group, just those assigned to me, is that right?
For us it would be very important to be able to share our contacts among all the organization, if possible.
It is a great tool indeed, I have using it during a few days and I'm still impressed, congratulations!
Best regards from Spain,
Sergio Ruiz |

I'm currently evaluating a new CRM product for our company. One of the top requirements is a seamless (or close to seamless) integration into Thunderbird. I was very happy to learn about vTiger, since it offers quite everything we need - until I discovered what you, Sergio, describe here. I can't really help you, all I can say is that the very same problem exists in the Outlook plugin as well.
:(
I was searching in this forum and found that a number of people suffer the same problem. Unfortunately, I haven't seen a developer giving a useful comment about it.
For our company it is absolutely crucial that group-wise contacts can be used in TBird. I really would hate to drop the vTiger because of that, since I still think it's exactly what we want.
So... dear vTiger devs, please make at least a statement like "we want it like that because..." or "we don't care" if you don't plan to fix this, so I could move on.
Thank you very much - and best regards from rainy, cold Switzerland. :P |

Hi,
The query used to collect the contactid's for import ignored the records assigned to users group.
This issue has been noted down on the issue tracker:
http://trac.vtiger.com/cgi-bin/trac.cgi/ticket/5251
I have suggested an alternate query which can solve the problem, would be nice if you can test it.

Let us know your feedback.

Prasad, thanks a lot for your quick reply!
I just tried it out and it looks much, much more like what I expected. Unfortunately, now ALL contacts are being imported into TB, not only the ones in my group. But still, this is much better than before. :)
I will test this more seriously tomorrow and post on how it's running. Thanks again! |

Hi Meteo,
Quote: Unfortunately, now ALL contacts are being imported into TB, not only the ones in my group. But still, this is much better than before.
When you say ALL contacts are being imported, is it importing contacts assigned to other users too?
NOTE: There is not duplicate check in TB for contact imports.
The suggested query was not a hint to developer and did not validate it completely, sorry for that.
Would be nice if you can provide us more inputs after your testing.
Regards,
Prasad

I could test this a bit further now...

Nope. If a contact is assigned to another user, it's not being imported. But if it's assigned to whatever group, I'll get that contact, no matter if I'm member of that group or not. Is it possible that this is because I gave all users the role "CEO" for testing?
(EDIT: Nope, doesn't make a difference. Gave my user a pretty restricted role, still the same.)

Yup, got that. A relatively easy way to get around this is to delete all contacts before the import, or the installation of the Duplicate Contacts Manager.

Come on... with your "unvalidated" query you gave me already more than I expected. Really no reason to sorry mate.
