When the MySQL Database has not been started or cannot be connected to an error message is displayed in the top part of the Firefox tab as follows:
Warning: mysql_pconnect() [function.mysql-pconnect]: Can't connect to MySQL server on 'MachineNaam' (10061) in C:\Program Files\vtigercrm5\apache\htdocs\vtigerCRM\adodb\drivers\adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 373
May I suggest that either a pop-up window or a fixed scrolling window
on the logon-password window is inserted with a contrasting background (contrast against the logon-window I mean) and perhaps a link to a some (preferably off-line) explanation page and troubleshooter.
I especially like the page in the Settings which gives great view of all the system and server data (time up etc.). That one is very professionally done.
But ... that is only seen by the systems administrator and this error message will tend to be thrown at a lot more people trying to log on.
So the extra professionalism in the displaying of this error-message may well pay off.
