I added a field to Quotes table. Inserted the relevant values into field, profile2field, etc.

I did exactly the same with two boolean fields which read / write fine. They have UI Type 56.

However, I followed the SAME procedure for two String fields and set the UI Type to 1 and in the logs I can see that the data is written to the DB. Checked the DB and values are there BUT vtiger refuses to read the values and display them.

The result is that when the record is next edited, it writes the blank values. How / where is the read values from the DB done?

I've checked the file permissions and they are identical to fields that do work. I cannot see any reason why the values are written but not read.

This issue has been there for months and despite my best efforts, I cannot trace why it is happening.
Thanks in advance.

There seems to be a similar problem here. I have followed pretty much the same steps as in this post.

I CANNOT believe how CRAP the solution to this is: The field entries for the fieldname MUST be lowercase, even if the field is upper or camel case in the table.

How can you break either being case sensitive (the default for Linux/Unix) or ignore case completely (the default for Windows)?

Where is the documentation to state the field column names MUST be lower case????

This has taken FOUR DAYS of debugging to solve. Who is going to pay for my time for your stupidity?

pdavie,
your statement is a little bit unfair. You got the software for free right? Why are you not taking the initiative and post you findings at the vtiger wiki so that others can benefit from your contributions. This is a open source projects that lives by and from its users.

Hugoxxx,
I have contributed fixes to many, many, many vTiger issues over the years. I have had enough of badly engineered software. Open source or not. My levels of frustration expressed here result of years of seeing vtiger decline in software quality.

It was a good product, now it is a pretty but functionally challenged product. I'll take functional any day.

This is the first time I've been back to the site in many months. I see that vTiger has slowed its release rate (which is fine) but is still fixing basic bugs and security issues (which have plagued the project in one form or another for years) and stabilizing the product (again, again, again). This is my point: if you're going to do it, do it right.

Thanks for your comments.
