leads vs vendors

im puzzeled with leads, contacts & vendors.

in the line of business we are operating we have a continious shortage of vendors (actuall our suppliers). For this reason i would like to quantify lead prospective vendors. Once qualified they will become a vendor.

Question now is how to do this since leads, potential and contacts are all inter-related but not with vendors...

Would appreciate any guidance
