Hi,
I'm new to V-tiger and there's one fundamental functionality that I don't understand. Why is the contact address overwritten by account address? These are two completely different things.
An account address is the address of the company and a contact address can be a private address. It should not be copied at all.
I agree, that sometimes if you want to send something to a contact you want to select either the contact address or account address, but why isn't this just a choice like checkbox 'default contact address is account address' . When not checked just use the contact address.
I've read one post about this topic namely http://forums.vtiger.com/viewtopic.php?t=1593&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=overwritten&start=0
They also recommend a checkbox, but are also doing very complex copying.
Why???

Hi bvdberg,
You are right in pointing out that the contact address is overwritten by account address. This is intended in the sense that all contacts belong to their respective Accounts(company) and hence the same address is taken for the contact. However, you will notice in 5.0.2, that the contact address field is editable and you can input a different address for contact and save it.
Hope this helps you.

Nithya

Hi Nithya,
Thank you for your explanation. However I am using version 5.0.2.
I imported my contacts from my previous (own made) crm system.
For example: there is one contact which I know personally (Angus). So I stored his private address. But he also works for a client of me. When I selected the account for Angus his private address was completely lost and there is no way to recover it.
Then back to my point: why bother copying the address. When looking at information integrity and redundancy you should never copy the address of account into contact. Just leave the address with the account. And store the fact that you want to use this address for the contact as well.
