I have posted my problems several times since the release of vt5 but to date no one has a solution. I have also read almost every post since the release of vt5. There are at last count 1188 posts regarding email problems and alot have not even been responded to.

Besides not being able to get VT5 email for individual users working, it appears as though the filtering for viewing emails by either user or contact or lead etc, does not work among other things depending on which post you read. When I try to apply the filter the same emails are returned for all view.

Man I really wished this email situation could get resolved. I have been using vtiger for over 3 years and all versions worked until vt5 beta on. None of those versions have worked regarding emails .

I guess my question is this. Can anyone tell me why it is so difficult to get email right? I mean there are tons of email programs that can retrieve emails from our mail server lots are free. I use several, and my customers use many more so why is it when emails are so important in tis day and age that, that part of vtiger, which is an awsome crm program is so lacking? Not really lacking in what it could do if it worked, but lacking in actually working? I am not bashing the vtiger team because they put ALOT of time and effort into a product that could be a market leader and an excellent product if what it was supposed to do, it actually did.

Some will say the product is free don't complain. Well a product is only as good as it functions. If it does not function right people will stop using the product and it will go away or stop being developed. Free or not if it is put into the market place it has to work as advertised.

Otis is 100% right. As this IS a real crisis to vTiger, I hope that the VT team places real emphesis on this topic. Our customers tell us, that they cannot use VT, if the eMails have to be handled in another program.

After my post someone found a fix that at least has partially allowed my email to work. The only issue right now is the mail count does not display properly, but that is a small item when compared to email not working. This post is here. I urge everyone who is having email problems to try this.

Thanks for your feedback on Email component.

We are analyzing Email related issues case-by-case. It will take some more time (may be 5.0.2 release) to stabilize email component. In the past, we have solved email problems on need basis. I remember my colleague Mickie has setup Web conference sessions with minimum 25 FREE users and solved their problems. But after upgrading to PHP5 we are facing new challenges.

I agree with you, Email is one of the most important component and still there are some major issues. Kindly help us collating all email related issues at one centralized place. You can add issues in our Bug Tracker available at:

We need more active volunteers to move email related issues to Trac.

I run it on my notebook for demonstration purposes on different plattforms (OS, CMS, ...) without real problems.

These kind of issues exist all over Vtiger. The problem with this project is that there are a small group of developers trying to resolve an avalanche of bugs flowing in and they are unable to cope.

I have even offered bounty for someone to take on a problem and resolve it - but no takers - that really confuses me

Open source should promote many developers to adopt the project - Why is this not happening ? or is there some other motive as to why this seems to be a closed shop in many ways.

There is something that goes down to the root of this VT project that just doesn't make sense.

and while i am at it , if you find a bug there is no quick way of reporting it on Trac, because you have to apply to become a tester to report a bug - That is Dumb

and also , why is there no nigthly builds or weekly build with the latest fixes to the bugs, so more users can test

If I am a newcomer to VT and download the VT 5.0 GA , there is a good chance that I will discover issues that are already resolved.

While VT seems to be a dynamic product, it is very far off from being able to go into production. I dont think it ever will unless there are many more developers willing to get involved, and this needs to be driven dynamically by the VT team

Is there any need for nigthly builds? I think it is quite easy download latest version of vTiger using svn. I think that night builds etc could slow core team bug fixing? (http://vtiger.fosslabs.com/cgi-bin/trac.cgi/browser/vtigercrm/branches)

We have addressed quite a lot many webmail issues in the current code base.
Pl. have a go at it.
